A must have? Surely not. It now had 3G but so what? It's not like you can conduct video calls. You have to navigate to the phone functionality - on a phone! It's got lots of applications you can buy, configure, pfaff about with, move about - do you really want to waste your life doing this? Surely it's better to have a simple, cheap phone which makes and receives calls. If you lose it, there are no floods of tears, you're not bankrupt. If you get a scratch on it - it's character. Fight Apple's relentless throwaway hardware treadmill. You don't need the latest trinket. You don't need to duplicate functionality you already have e.g. digital camera, portable jukebox etc. Fight the Man!
